The medium is the vehicle used to communicate nonviolent action. For example, those targeted in a nonviolent action may witness the action in person. Others affiliated with the activists or the targeted group may learn of the action through television, video, news photographs, radio, news reports or word-of-mouth.
The media moderate both the vividness and credibility associated with nonviolent action. For example, pictures bring more emotion to the experience than sound and words. Seeing a protestor beaten relentlessly evokes a stronger response than reading about these events. And seeing events like these makes it more difficult to dispute their occurrence.
